Matthew Gagnon is a Montreal born artist. He began his career at a young age as a cartoonist and has since moved into acrylic painting, sculpture and digital art. His various disciplines are all connected by a clean style and an adherence to simplicity.
His portrait series seeks to find the human in the inhuman. The act of painting allows the realistic image to take on otherworldly qualities, making the inanimate seem almost human, while the wear and usage on the figure invite the audience to imagine the lives that the characters might have lived.
Matthew’s Graphic series is a celebration of the famous monuments around the city. By rearranging basic shapes and simple designs, he creates a visual language that unites the series and demonstrates how identifiable and beautiful our cities monuments are.
